Flour mills, frozen lakes, and Prince
Minneapolis–St. Paul, Minnesota straddle the Mississippi River as it winds through the Upper Midwest, two distinct cities that share an airport, a river, and a fierce sense of civic pride. Minneapolis grew up around the flour mills at St. Anthony Falls — once the milling capital of the world — while St. Paul remained the older, quieter capital just downstream. Together the Twin Cities anchor a region defined by lakes, a nationally admired park system, and long winters that locals meet with saunas, pond hockey, and stubborn good cheer. This is also Prince's hometown, home to Paisley Park, First Avenue, and a music and theater scene that rivals cities twice its size.
